The Screaming Head

  • Go See Red Tails! Just because Tyler Perry and Will Smith exist does not mean that Hollywood is all equal and good. George Lucas (yeah, you remember Star Wars?) produced an all black film about an all black, really THE all black, World War II Air Force brigade, the Fightin' 99th. They were the first all black air force pilot brigade in World War II, and they performed the best out of anyone. They never lost a bomber; they never got shot down. Nonetheless, many people do not know who they are.Even though George Lucas was behind the flick and it starred major black talent (Terrance Howard, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Ne-Yo), Lucas recently went on Jon Stewart to tell the world how ...

  • A Fair Idea from a Working Class Slob     I think the minimum wage should be enough where a forty hour a week job gives me the dignity to look my child in the eye and say we live in the greatest nation in the world. A job that does not make me feel as though I'm on a hamster wheel always being expected to sacrifice a little more, run a little faster, so my superiors can buy their third house, second yacht, and vacations where ever they please. So yes, I believe the minimum wage should be a dignified wage.     A fair share is enough that when a family member works forty hours, s/he is able to put food an the table, pay the utilities, have ...

  • How Well Would You Do? I'm always amazed when I hear people suggest that, if someone is living in poverty in this great nation of ours, the fault must be entirely his own. After all, this is supposed to be the land of freedom and opportunity, isn't it? And if someone has enough drive and ambition, he should be able to find some kind of job that can support a decent standard of living, right?Comments like these serve to indicate just how indoctrinated Americans have become to conservative free-market propaganda. We've been hearing this sort of nonsense since the Reagan years: it wasn't true then, and it certainly isn't true now.In a country with over 9% unemployment ...

  • The Blood Oath: Public Comment Period Open The Blood Oath: I do so solemnly swear that I believe with the deepest conviction that money is not speech and that only human beings are persons entitled to constitutional rights including the right to access the legislative process and the right to influence politicians, political campaigns and elections. Furthermore, I promise to use my position as an elected official to make a priority of instituting and/or supporting a process whereby corporate person-hood is legally dissolved and the concept of money as speech is legally abolished. Those that swear by The Blood Oath will not be required to run a blade across their palms.  The Blood Oath is a symbolic recognition that human beings have blood running through ...

  • Early in the Morning Whaddaya do with a drunken sailor?Whaddaya do with a drunken sailor?Whaddaya do with a drunken sailor early in the morning? So goes the old sea shanty and the answers sung in response were many and varied.  "Shave his belly with a rusty razor!" or "Lock him in the hold with the captain's daughter!" were certainly two options that seemed worth considering-- the former being a suitably mild punishment and that latter a rather dubious reward. But what do you do with Occupy Wall Street?  So far you either support it or condemn it.  You either join it or encourage it, or attack, or ignore it.  Or you watch from the sidelines with either bemused curiosity or indignant ...

  • Reflections 1 ~ Common Sense Introduction Here is the link to "Common Sense" as written by Thomas Paine.  The purpose of sharing this is to start other people forming their own opinions on it's meaning and relevence.  'Forewarned is forarmed' is not just a trite cliché!http://www.constitution.org/tp/comsense.htmI will post my perspectives and hopefully the full piece tomorrow with access to more than a mobile device.  Perspectives will be posted as a seperate post to encourage discussion that wont be confused with theoriginal document.Copy and paste seems to be beyond the capabilities of my tablet (or perhaps it's user) so please bear with me as I re-type this document.  If you point out errors, I will ...

  • Political Finance Reform - A Win/Win Solution for Citizens & Politicians The OWS movement for social/economic justice is the most critical movement of our generation.  However, Wall Street won't change without Congress mandating it, and by demanding that Congress bite the hand that currently feeds them we could be headed for a bloody stalemate.  Before someone gets killed, perhaps we should consider an action plan that creates a win/win for citizens and politicians.                                       THE I$$UE OF OUR GENERATION Political Finance Reform                             A Surprising Solution                                Political Finance Reform provides an action plan to end "Legalized Political Bribery".  By reallocating just 1/1000th our federal revenue, we can remove corporations from politics, save our planet, middle class and democracy.    The Corporate "Coup d'Etat"   Most politicians ...

  • NDAA2012 - S1867 and the practice of discrediting accountability?   I was at first, very uncool with this bill. After taking some time to review everything to do with it, contrasted against provisions of the Patriot Act, I find this bill to be a counter to the Patriot Act. It has been sold in the manner you see now simply because it was crafted largely by Republicans and a repeal of the Patriot Act at this time is political suicide for the right. What the NDAA-2012 does with respect to S1867 is limit almost the entire counter terrorism jurisdiction to the military. This very thing elevates the quality and requirements to take action as the military has had measures in-place for 40+ years, guidelines for counter terrorism, global ...
